Day 1:Arrival in Kigali for a city tour

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our professional driver-guide. After a short briefing, transfer to your hotel for check-in for lunch and some relaxation. Embark on a guided city tour of Kigali. Visit key landmarks such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a powerful tribute to Rwanda’s resilience and unity, and explore vibrant local markets or artisan shops. Spend the evening at leisure, enjoying your hotel’s comforts.

After breakfast, set off for Akagera National Park, located in eastern Rwanda along the border with Tanzania. The drive offers stunning views of terraced hills, rural homesteads, and wetlands. Arrive at your lodge, check in, and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, head out for your first game drive. Akagera’s diverse habitats from open plains to woodland and lakes are home to elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelope, and an increasing number of lions and rhinos reintroduced to the park. As the sun sets, return to your lodge for dinner.

Day 3: Full Day Game Drive Viewing and Boat Safari in Akagerea

Rise early for a sunrise game drive, the best time to spot predators such as lions, hyenas, and leopards. You will meet with your guide and drive towards the park’s northern plains, home to buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, and countless bird species. Return to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation. In the afternoon, enjoy a peaceful boat safari on Lake Ihema, where hippos cool off and crocodiles lie in the sun on the shores. Keep an eye out for waterbirds like African fish eagles and kingfishers. After, drive back to your lodge for inner and relaxation

Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National

After breakfast, check out and begin the long but scenic drive south-west towards Nyungwe Forest National Park. This journey takes you through Rwanda’s picturesque countryside, passing tea plantations, rolling hills, and local villages. You may stop along the way for photo opportunities or to interact with local communities and have lunch. Arrive at your lodge in Nyungwe in the evening, nestled at the edge of the lush rainforest for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk in Nyungwe Forest

After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing before starting your chimpanzee trekking adventure. You will follow experienced guides through the dense forest in search of wild chimpanzees. Listen for their calls echoing through the trees as you approach them. Spend an exhilarating hour observing these intelligent primates as they play, groom, and forage in their natural habitat. Have lunch at the lodge and later in the afternoon, take on the thrilling canopy walk, a suspended bridge offering panoramic views of the forest canopy and the chance to spot birds, monkeys, and stunning forest views. Drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, check out and drive to Volcanoes National Park, located in the Virunga Mountains along the border with Uganda and the DRC. The scenic journey takes you through Rwanda’s heartland, passing Lake Kivu and the green hills that define the country. Upon arrival in Musanze town near the park, check in to your lodge. The rest of the day is yours to relax or enjoy optional activities such as a cultural village visit or local market tour.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and Transfer to Kigali & Departure

After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking etiquette and allocation to a specific gorilla family. Accompanied by expert trackers, trek through the misty rainforest in search of these gentle giants. The trek can take from 2 to 6 hours depending on their location and can be physically demanding, but the reward is a magical hour spent observing a gorilla family up close. After the trek, return to the lodge for freshening up and lunch. Later, transfer back to Kigali, where you will be dropped off at the airport for your onward flight or hotel, marking the end of your unforgettable Rwandan safari.
