Day 2: Sabyinyo Hiking.

Start your day with an early breakfast to fuel up for the challenging Sabinyo Volcano hike.
Leave the lodge early and head to the park headquarters to meet your guide for the Sabinyo Volcano hike. The hike takes about 8 hours (round trip), depending on your pace and weather conditions. The Sabinyo Volcano stands at 3,669 meters (12,036 feet) and is one of the most iconic mountains in the Virunga range, often referred to as the “Old Man’s Mountain” because of its sharp peaks. The hike is moderately difficult but highly rewarding with stunning views of Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. As you trek through dense forest, bamboo groves, and rocky outcrops, you’ll encounter beautiful landscapes and possibly some wildlife such as buffaloes, forest monkeys, and various bird species. At the summit, you’ll be able to stand in three countries at once (Uganda, Rwanda, and the DRC), which is an incredible experience. A packed lunch will be provided during the hike, which you can enjoy at the summit or a scenic stop along the way. After enjoying the summit views and taking some photos, start your descent. The way down is easier, but still requires attention. Return to your lodge to freshen up and relax after the long hike. You can spend the evening resting, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere, and reflecting on your hike. Enjoy a well-deserved dinner at your lodge. You’ll have some time to relax and reflect on your accomplishments.
