Day 1:Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park & Afternoon Birdwatching.
Depart from Kampala early in the morning and head towards Queen Elizabeth National Park (approximately 6-7 hours drive). On the way, enjoy the scenic views of the Ugandan countryside. Arrive in Queen Elizabeth National Park and check into your campsite. After lunch, embark on an afternoon birdwatching excursion in the park’s Mweya Peninsula. This area offers great birding opportunities, with species such as African Fish Eagle, Yellow-billed Stork, Purple Heron, and White-necked Raven. Return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Full Day Birdwatching in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
After breakfast, set out for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi Plains. This area is known for its wide variety of bird species, including Secretary Bird, White-browed Coucal, Grey Crowned Crane, and the Crested Lark. You’ll also see many antelopes and possibly lions or buffaloes. Visit the Kazinga Channel, that connects Lake George to Lake Edward. This area is fantastic for birdwatching, where you can spot species like African Fish Eagle, Pink-backed Pelican, and Marabou Stork. The wetlands here attract a variety of waterbirds. Enjoy a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel for more birdwatching opportunities. As you cruise along the channel, look out for Hornbill species, Pied Kingfisher, and Papyrus Gonolek. After the boat trip, you can take a short break for lunch. In the late afternoon, go on another game drive or birdwatching excursion in the Ishasha Sector (known for the famous tree-climbing lions). This region offers sightings of African Openbill, Rufous-naped Lark, and African Marsh Harrier.
Day 3: Morning Birdwatching & Return to Kampala .
On your final day, head out early for a morning birdwatching session in the Maramagambo Forest. Here you can spot forest species like Grey-cheeked Hornbill, Blue-shouldered Robin Chat, and Eastern Olive Sunbird. Explore the forest trails and enjoy the peaceful sounds of the forest. Depending on your departure time, enjoy one last look at the Kasenyi Plains or visit the Crater Lake region for a final opportunity to spot bird species in the area. Depart from Queen Elizabeth National Park and head back to Kampala (approximately 6-7 hours’ drive), arriving in the evening.
