Day 1: Arrival and Welcome to Amudat

You will be picked up by your tour guide and you will begin your adventure and drive to Amudat, where the Pokot people will receive you with warmth and hospitality. You will settle into a community-run lodge built from local materials and powered by solar energy. As evening sets, elders invite you to sit around a fire under the stars. They welcome you with stories of their ancestors and traditional songs that echo through the night, preparing you for the journey ahead

Day 2: Immersion into Pastoral Life

The day begins before sunrise, as you walk alongside herders into the grazing fields. Here you will participate in the daily rituals of milking cows and goats while learning how rotational grazing helps conserve the fragile environment. Later, you join women in preparing sorghum porridge and local dishes. The day ends with reflective conversations on how climate change is altering pastoral traditions and livelihoods

Day 3: Trek into the Hills and Medicinal Knowledge

Young Pokot guides lead you into the rolling hills on a five-hour trek. Along the trail you discover medicinal plants and edible roots, hearing stories about their uses from generation to generation. A picnic is shared under acacia trees while overlooking valleys below. By evening, you return to the village where youth welcome you with dances, music, and songs that celebrate Pokot resilience

Day 4: Women’s Cooperative and School Visit

This day is devoted to women’s empowerment. In the morning you will join a women’s cooperative for bead-making and leatherwork sessions, where every design tells a story of identity and culture. In the afternoon, you visit the local school where children will sing and perform for you. Together with pupils, you exchange stories, play games, and support learning initiatives that strengthen education in the region.

Day 5: Conservation and Tree Planting

You rise early to join a tree-planting activity in degraded rangelands, contributing to restoring the environment. The community will guide you through soil conservation practices, including digging contour lines. The activity becomes a living classroom where sustainability is learned by doing. Evening discussions center on the future of land stewardship in Karamoja.

Day 6: Skills and Capacity Building with Women

This is a day of exchange. Women invite you into their savings groups and income-generating projects such as soap-making and tailoring. You are encouraged to share your own skills whether in marketing, storytelling, or photography making it a true two-way learning experience. The conversations that unfold are intimate, inspiring, and life-changing for both visitors and hosts.

Day 7: Market Visit and Farewell Feast

You spend the morning at Amudat market, a lively space where honey, beads, and farm produce are traded. You purchase directly from women and youth, ensuring your money supports their livelihoods. In the evening, the community will gather to prepare a farewell feast, complete with roasted goat, beans, and simsim paste. Music and dance carry you through your final night in Karamoja.

The morning is slow and filled with gratitude. You take a final walk in the village, exchange farewells, and prepare for your onward journey. You leave with friendships formed, a stronger appreciation of pastoral resilience, and the deep memory of Pokot hospitality.
