Day 1: Arrival in Kigali for a City Tour

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, meet your driver-guide and transfer to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, embark on a guided tour of Kigali city. Visit key historical and cultural sites such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local craft markets, and bustling neighborhoods, giving you a glimpse into Rwanda’s resilience and vibrant culture.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park for an Afternoon Game Drive

After breakfast, depart for Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s premier savannah park known for its scenic plains, lakes, and wetlands. The drive east offers beautiful views of the countryside. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge, enjoy lunch, and head out for your first game drive. Search for elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes, and, with luck, lions and rhinos as the sun begins to set over the savannah. Drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Boat Safari on Lake Ihema

Rise early for a morning game drive through the park’s northern sector, rich in wildlife. Keep your eyes for lions, hyenas, leopards, antelopes, and large herds of plains game. Akagera is also home to troops of vervet monkeys and olive baboons, often spotted along forested sections of the park. After lunch, enjoy a relaxing boat safari on Lake Ihema, home to hippos wallowing in the shallows, crocodiles lieing in the sun on the shores, and a wide variety of birds including African fish eagles and herons. Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National park for a Scenic Drive

After breakfast, set off on the scenic drive south to Nyungwe Forest National Park. The route winds through picturesque hills, tea plantations, and local villages, offering stunning views along the way. Arrive at your lodge nestled on the forest edge and unwind as you soak in the beauty of the ancient rainforest, home to chimpanzees, monkeys, and countless bird species.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking & Primate Encounters and Afternoon Canopy Walk Experience.

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before venturing into Nyungwe’s dense forest on your chimpanzee trek. The rainforest echoes with the calls of primates and birds as you track Rwanda’s playful and intelligent chimpanzees. Once located, spend a magical hour observing them in their natural habitat. Nyungwe is also home to 13 other primate species, and along your trek, you may encounter colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, and the rare owl-faced monkey. In the afternoon, enjoy the thrilling canopy walkway suspended above the treetops an excellent opportunity to spot more monkeys and birds while enjoying panoramic views of the rainforest. Day 6: Return to Kigali and Departure

After breakfast, check out and begin your journey back to Kigali, driving through scenic tea plantations and rural landscapes. Depending on your flight schedule, you may enjoy a leisurely lunch in Kigali or visit local markets for souvenirs before transferring to the airport for your onward flight, marking the end of your unforgettable Rwanda Wildlife & Primate Safari.
