Day 1:Kampala to Semuliki National Park & Afternoon Birdwatching.

Depart from Kampala early in the morning, and embark on the journey to Semuliki National Park (approximately 7-8 hours’ drive). You’ll pass through Fort Portal on the way, giving you a scenic drive through the Ugandan countryside. Arrive at Semuliki National Park and check-in to your lodge. After a short rest and lunch, set out for your first birdwatching walk in the Bwamba area. This region is known for Blue-headed Coucal, Crested Guinea Fowl, and a variety of forest hornbills. The riverbanks also offer a chance to see water-associated birds such as the African Fish Eagle and Great White Egret. Relax at the lodge after a day of travel and birdwatching. Enjoy dinner, take part in a night walk for spotting nocturnal birds like the Grayish Eagle Owl and White-tailed Nightjar. Overnight at camp site.

Day 2: Full Day of Birdwatching in Semuliki National Park.

After an early breakfast, set out for a full day of birdwatching in Semuliki’s lowland rainforest. The park is renowned for its avian diversity, including species like the Piping Hornbill, Red-rumped Tinkerbird, Western Bearded Scrub Robin, and the occasional Shoe-billed Stork in wetlands. Visit the Sempaya Hot Springs area, where you’ll have the chance to see a variety of bird species such as Yellow-casqued Hornbill, White-headed Wood Hoopoe, and African Grey Parrot. The hot springs area is great for birdwatching along the river, as well as near the swampy areas. Take a break for lunch and then head to Ntoroko Bay, a beautiful area near the shores of Lake Albert, where you can spot African Fish Eagles, White-throated Bee-eater, and the Pygmy Kingfisher. Return to your lodge for dinner, and enjoy the surroundings. Optionally, take an evening walk or relax as you await the sounds of nocturnal birds around. Return to the campsite for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Morning Birdwatching & Return to Kampala.

After breakfast, enjoy an early morning birdwatching session in the Bwamba Gorge area. This area is perfect for spotting Buff-throated Apalis, Little Greenbul, and the Grey-headed Oliveback. It’s a peaceful area for a more relaxed birdwatching experience. Depending on your departure time, enjoy a final walk through the forest trails or visit the Papyrus swamp for species such as the Papyrus Gonolek and White-winged Warbler. After lunch, begin your journey back to Kampala (around 7-8 hours’ drive), arriving in the evening to the end.
